By Conrad Bloc
During the Eighty Years’ War (1568-1648) between the Seventeen Provinces and Spain William of Orange triumphantly rode into Brussels in 1577, where he enjoyed a lot of support from the Southern Netherlands. In honour of this event the Antwerp medallist Conrad Bloc designed a series of five medals. This specimen shows the prince and his third wife, Charlotte de Bourbon.
